Ginnia Cheng

Comedian Ginnia Cheng in a professional headshot, looking upward with a wry expression. Long straight black hair with fringe, wearing a deep magenta satin wrap dress with bow detail. Off-white studio wall backdrop.

She won Louis Theroux and Amazon Studios' Looking for Louis competition — selected from over 600 entries — for her documentary exploring the world of Chess Boxing. Louis Theroux himself called her "an exciting young talent." The prize included a six-month creative development option with Mindhouse Productions and a 12-month Amazon Studios mentoring programme. She is a London-based East Asian comedian, actress, and voiceover artist from Hong Kong, performing regularly at The Comedy Store, Top Secret Comedy Club, and Up The Creek, as well as across Europe and in Hong Kong.

Her competition record is strong. She was shortlisted for the BBC New Comedy Award in both 2021 and 2023, won King Gong at The Comedy Store in 2022, and reached the semi-finals of So You Think You're Funny?. She was also handpicked by BBC Writersroom for a programme showcasing the UK's East Asian comedy talent, and was named Up The Creek One to Watch 2021.

She is the founder and co-host of Sex Standing Up Comedy, London's sex-positive live comedy experience, which has been recommended by the Metro and is regularly listed in TimeOut's Top 3 Things to Do in London. She also works as an actress, voiceover artist, and media commentator on race and mental health.
